has anybody ever wired tv/fm/dab/sky plus points. I have never done it, need to find out how. Any help would be great. Thanks :D

basicaly, the chap im working for, has asked me if i can install tv/dab/fm/sky plus in each bedroom x5, in kitchen, dining areas x2, living room, study etc, what the best cable to use is for each comonent and a wiring diagram or something. thanks

He wants sky plus in 10 rooms! Does he have 10 sky plus boxes? Does he already have a sky dish installed by sky?

DAB, Terrestrial TV and FM are simple enough, you can use passive splitters or amplifiers. Satellite is a bit more involved.

thats exactly what i said to him, but they cant be told. if i wire sky plus to all rooms that will mean they will get the same programme on each tv presumably. with the tv and fm/dab is it a case of radials to each room off a splitter from the roof space with an amplifier. what type of cable is used for the fm/dab?

I think the way to achieve this is as follows:

All aerial/dish connections come to the room with the sky plus box. Then a single coax cable goes from there to some central point (usually the loft). There it is split by an amplifier, which has IR pass through. You then need some IR receivers in each room.

I'm not 100% sure of this though. You might be better of on a forum geared more towards AV.

Oh and if they want it in HD they better have deep pockets. HD video distribution is a world of pain and expense.

hi griz80, ive been a qualified spark for 10 years now, but when it comes to wiring this stuff im a complete novice. i know the basics obviously, terminating.
with the tv aerial i imagine its just a case of a cable from the aerial to an amp, then radial of it to each room? have no idea with the fm/dab, guessing its the same with different cable, and again with sky plus have no idea

Most of the replies above tell you what you need. My advice is to keep it basic if you intend to do it all yourself. If you get into HDMI distribution or CAT 5 you'll need help with acceptable cable lengths and splitting hardware. If you're near Doncaster we know some good guys who could help with all that as a subby. Sometimes that's a good way to satisfy your client and learn a bit at the same time.

Sky + is basically a 2 channel reciever hence why 2 cables are run between the box and the lnb at the dish if he want an independant sky in say a bedroom he will need a sky multiroom package with another cable being run to the dish or another sky+ then again two cables or you could go for one of these sky transmitters or magic eyes but I have not a scoobie how they work

HI
How about a loft box it is the easy way from the sky dish to the reciever and then up to the loft, in 1 port and then from the aeriel to the 2nd port , then from bad aeriel into the next port ,Then you have an eight way or ten way port ,from them to each room ,so you get your normal channels 1 to 5 and dab and then your sky channel ,with a magic eye at each point ,

My understanding is the cable for sky needs to run between the box and dish also 2 boxes cannot share one cable ie like normal digital tv hence why sky+ has two cables. I have Sky+,SKY multiroom and a tv with HD freesat built in so 4 cables going to a quad lnb on the dish

You're best bet is to look into using a multiplexer system, tv, sky, radio can be fed into it then distributed throughout the house, you need to bear in mind that sky plus will require 2 feeds from the multiplexer. Best to draw up a plan of what rooms require their own seperate viewing and what rooms can be linked, once decided you can then link to other rooms by using rf out 2 on sky box(making sure to turn this function on in the menus) and feeding this to a tv link splitting, I think a 4way or more will need a power source.
