Hi All

What is the best way to wire up a bathroom extractor?

I do not want it it to come on when the bathroom light is switched on I would like to to come on when I have a shower so I would prefer it to be on its own pull cord where I can switch it on when required.
(mainly because my daughter and wife both use the loo at night and turn the light on so I do not want it running at night as its next to our bedroom)

I have a mini consumer unit in the loft and have a ring main up there with 3 sockets what would be the connection to that I can utilise the current ring and add a pull cord in the bathroom to control the extractor.

Many Thanks

a humidity type with a pull cord that you can turn on manually as well should do it fine thats the one i have in my bathroom so when the kids forget to turn it on when they shower it comes on automatically

not to sound funny but are u an electrician,, because u need to be part p to work in special locations and i dont think we should be encouraging diyers/ to do work in bathrooms,, if im out of line please tell me

I'm with Eddie on this one...sorry to be stuborn or sound rude as well.

Last thing we want is to "advise" SKY what to do and then something goes wrong (like 230v )!!!!!! and we would feel responsible.

Best regards,

Sav

Your fan should have its own isolator seperate to the lightswitch last thing at night make it your job to turn it off and then in the morning turn it on again.

Better to give good sound advice, than non at at all......

The part p in principle was to stop every tom dick and harry having a go , so what your saying is that we should not advise people that it is dangerous to mess with electrics in the bathroom with out the neccessary training,

And that we should tell them how to install the fan (in a special location)so we can all appear helpfull.

I was happy when part p was brought out so as to stop mr diy'er installing electrics in dangerous places.

BUT WHAT YOUR SAYING GAFFER IS TO HELL WITH PART P , LETS BE LIKE B&Q AND START ISSUEING DIAGRAMS .

the other day there was a link on how to wire a dimmer and a few people couldnt even give correct advice on that so imagine if this guy read one of the bad posts and followed it and someone got hurt,

I KNOW THIS SITE IS SUPPOSE TO HELP THE PUBLIC , BUT SURELY WE SHOULD PROTECT IT AGAINST ITSELF TOO,
