Hi all. Basic question for most of you I'm sure. Wondering if it's best to wire feeds to wall switch positions or light points on ceiling. It's a new built house. All t&e with concrete floors.
I've always taken t&e feeds to light points but find some sparks take feeds to switches. Bit of a dull one I'm aware!! Many thanks if anyone can give me good reasons either way. Geoff

I work with a builder who insists I work with neutrals in the switch box, thus only one cable to light fitting. Works well enough if using 35mm back boxes.

I would suggest you search the forum and read the countless threads about the subject.

Then end result is basically that everyone has an opinion on the subject and there is no definitive answer.

And standby for a lot of hassle on this thread for asking a question which has been flogged to death and back again already.

Does the builder also sign his name to the design of the installation ?

I'd say no as it's not designing the circuit, just requesting that a certain requirement is met as part of the electricians design. No different to an architect requesting steel conduit as a feature - the circuits still need designing.

load of conkers if you ask me.

I'm just wondering what else this builders telling you to do, and how daft you are for listening to him!!

And at the very least, two cables that need chasing in to every switch point, and half as much additional cable used on a given installation!! So i hope this knowledgeable builder (not) pays over the odds for lighting circuits!! lol!!

Wire it as loop through at the fittings but use a j501 above ceiling, terminate as a ceiling rose, then you only have the drop to the fitting. no need for miles of cable or 35mm back boxes!

if i got asked, i would give them a quote for additional cost of 3 core down to every switch lol.

loop in/out at fitting with N at switch, then watch there head explode while they try to work that one out
