mayfair

Was at a barby last night at a Dutch clients house and my clients father About 90 years old got round to talking to me and started asking about Green energy and a stament he made to me really went home,
He said " my mother was keen on solar and wind energy when i was a boy" ?????????? I thought well lets have it.........He then pointed out that all the mothers used to dry their washing on the line using solar and wind energy instead of converting the energy into 220v to operate a tumble dryer. I'll leave you pondering that thought.

still do it mate, even with the foul weather we have here. 2 wash lines across the lawn.

Though that would be more your style Tel, or a bit too modern

I have two daughters still at home and the tumble dryer never stops. We have a line in the garden but even in summer it is rarely used, even on the odd day when it does not rain. They belong to the "I want it now" generation and are incapable of planning even a day ahead on what clothes they will need.

I cry every time I get an electricity bill. I think the tumble dryer may soon need a spare part that has to be specially made in China and will take a few months to arrive.

I may try that. At least a week of earache before I manage to fix it. Not sure if it would be worth it :-( I could try disconnecting the High part of the element. I am sure that longer at lower heat would be more cost effective than shorter at higher heat. They may not even notice. I wonder if I can get a payback form someone for reducing my energy consumption?

More fool you for letting kids dictate to you, to this extent!!

Perhaps it's time to introduce your daughters to the real world, where you pay for the things and energy you use!! Unlike the sun and the wind!!!

Engineer54 - I know when I can't win and this is one of those cases. Three women on my case, I stand no chance. The two daughters have been well trained.

As for explaining the real world, I have tried until I am exhausted but until they see me in penury I do not think it will sink in.
