Hello All

Went to a property to do an inspection. No earthing in lights, ok no problem, all class 2 accessories everywhere. But the light switch back boxes are all wooden? does this warrent a code? if so what do you think?
I was always under the impression that a fuseboard with a wooden backbox was a code 2 due to fire risk, but does this apply to back boxes?

Cheers all.

unusual one , this. i would have thought with wooden back boxes, you would find rubber cable. if it's just the back boxes, it's a similar scenario to boxes fitted in lath and plaster, so would think it's a question of " is there a fire risk".

Have to admit never actually seen a wooded back box, a picture would be great.

Normally it is a wooden noggin fixed in to the wall and then a wood back plate with an old bakelite round switch, like this bello

It is this type of arrangement?

lovely switches those. a bit of a squirt of switch cleaner every 12 months, last forever. the brass ones are nice, fitted on mahogany patress. and singles in wooden channel under floor.

wait till i get on to lead sheathed twin!!!!! and cast iron isolators.

things have moved on a bit mate. You can get some stuff called Twin and Earth, it is a new type of cable:eek: And the isolators are now made of plastic:cool: much easier to use. I bet you are still spending pounds shillings and pence. We now have decimalised coinage, and the fivers aren't white, and ten bob notes have gone too.

Welcome to the 21st century mate:D:D
