Eh up :)

Been making up a test board, so far have done the lighting circuits.

Critical feedback welcome. :)

EDIT: some limitations... Switches reclaimed so don't match. Don't have any double clips.

Could do with summat to put in the top left... Anyone got a (s)cr@p CU? :) Live in Beeston near Nottingham; can either collect, or (if it's easier) just chuck it in the general direction of my doorstep on your way past. If not, no worries... I will get over my embarrassment, and buy one from a shed.

Cheers
Steve. :)

Really nice board, well done, good job. Only 2 very, very minor things:-1 is the ceiling rose termination could be a little bit tidier (very small point, dont loose any sleep over it lol). 2, It may be me but looking at the sockets, are they perfectly level? It may just be me and no I have not been drinking lol.

Little tip for everyone. When you have a few sockets side by side like this, get a length of wood with a good straight edge and screw that to the wall first. Use a level of course and make sure you have the height of the socket correctly measured from the bottom. Then place each socket on top of the wood and space them out as required.

As for what to put in the top left hand corner how about a 2 way RCD D/B? I've got one in the back of the van knocking around. Could also give you a bit of 10mm earth and a clamp, 10mm eye lug and set up a bonding circuit? I'm working some where in Nottingham next week (dont know exactly where atm) and if close nough I could drop it all off or just post it to you? I'll have a look at the other stuff I could pass onto you once I get my van back.

Thanks for the comments, Paul. :)

I struggled with getting the ceiling roses neat, to be honest (especially the loop in, loop out, top left), and I wasn't really satisfied with how they ended up.

The wonkiness of the switches has perhaps been exagerated by the distortion due to the camera - or at least, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Good tip with the piece of wood - I tried to do something similar to try to line the up vertically (set square on bottom edge, and 2' steel rule) but they probably are out by a mm or two.

Plan is to finish it off, do whatever limited functional tests I can do with a voltage indicator and a ÂŁ10 multimeter; then I'll strip it and start again, trying to maintain or improve the standard and get gradually faster.

Awesome! That'd be grand! I don't want to put you to any bother, but that all sounds ideal, cheers! :)

(Dare I ask how the van is?)

at last house I nearly had to resort to bonding/no more nails the backboxes in, crumbling brick and mortar etc

Tip on installing a ceiling rose.....

Get your tools...

Strip off the outer sheath. L = Loop & S = Switch Live. notice how the t&e is positioned so the blues are on the neutral side of the rose and browns are on the right, saves the mess of wires crossing needlessly.

Position and cut each wire to the correct length needed.

Notice how I leave the cpc until last and remove the lamp wires from their clips to give more working room.

[ElectriciansForums.net] Work in progress / on the scrounge

Bend the cpc's into position and cut to size required. Make sure they are well away from any fixing holes

[ElectriciansForums.net] Work in progress / on the scrounge

Sleeve up the cpc's and connect the lamp wires back onto their clips/hooks.

Job done, very neat and tidy. Not bad for this time on a Sunday night lol.

Garage are dragging their feet and wont know until Monday! A friend off this forum is picking me up in the morning to take me to the job I'm on, bless him, really helping me out on transport. If I cant have it back by Tuesday I'll have to hire a van.

Thanks for asking Steve.

Yeah, the old version was embarrassing, now that I know how it should be done. You live and learn :)
