Working out resistivity R=pL/A | on ElectriciansForums

Discuss Working out resistivity R=pL/A in the Electrical Course Trainees Only area at ElectriciansForums.net

p = ( R x A ) / L.
i'e . the resistivity of a conductor, p , is proportional to R ( measured resistance ) x A ( (csa) divided by L (length).

so if you know R, A, and L, you can work out p.

Here's an example

some books/websites might use a different power factor
10-6 0.0178
10-7 0.178
10-8 1.78
10-9 17.8
As you can see all that really changes is where the decimal point goes.

I tend to use the 10-6 because its easier cancelling out as you could see in the example I gave.

Hope that helps?

Michael
