Wow

Well I bet some of you who remembered it was my first day in my new job rewiring council houses want to know how it went , so let me tell you...

YUCH !!!

what on earth did I sign up for?? Hahaha

In all fairness it wasn't that bad. Good bunch of lads to work with, houses are a bit grotty tho. Petty fast paced and dirty. I definitely is an experience. Actually learned a fair bit today. Drilled out 2 fan holes with a core drill (hard work), mounted and terminated, done my first ever bit of chasing out too. The rest was just second fixing sockets and spurs.

And for anyone who thinks sparks work is just electrics... I had to sweep and clean an entire bathroom, even around the toilet in a stinking council house.

welcome to the real world ;)

Sounds like you had fun :) but core drilling on your first day is a bit too much, your boss is probably trying to weigh up your skills and abilities.

Another tip for you that was told to me by an old spark whilst working in a dirty house.

"An electrician washes his hands after the toilet, a smart electrician washes his hand before and after using the toilet." Floody buy yourself an industrial pack of hand wipes and put them in the van, use them before touching/eating food.

I didn't mind the core drilling I offerd to do it. I've used hole saws before but nothing this big :P wasn't hard really just bloody heavy. But I enjoyed today. Only now getting in from college so it's a 13 hour day for me on a Monday and Tuesday.

Yeah, it's gonna be hard work I'm sure. Glad you survived your first day. Hopefully you'll learn lots of new skills and your theory will start to make more sense when you see it applied in the real world.

Stick it out at least as long as you're learning, it will be invaluable experience and hopefully it will eventually open doors for you to move into other jobs.
