Hi,

I am a metal fabricator about to start producing wrought iron (mild steel) Lighting, standard, table lamps, wall lights etc.

I know it is an absolute must for these to be earthed, and a sticker to indicate this must be visable on the items. Is there anything else I need to know like CE marks etc.
where would I get this information from?

Any advice greatly appreciated guys

Mark

Not sure where to point you, except to say there are alternatives, you could look to make them "double insulated", therefore deemed not requiring an earth. This can involve the use of a transformer and 12 Volt bulbs.

If I was in the game I 'd look into it, there are hundreds of thousands of lighting opportunities out there where folk want a nice light (eg wrought iron!!!). But want to fit it where there ain't no earth, and they do not want to pay for an earth to be brought there either!!

You have a look on tinternet and see what metal lights there are that can be fitted whens't there bain't be an earth, and then how much they are.

Definately a niche.

Ps I'm happy to accept a 6% commission when you are up and running

Best to find a friendly local Electrician who will test each unit for you and provide a sticker and paperwork, just like a Portable Appliance Test(PAT).
Additonally it is also worth thinking of what you could include such as remote wireless switching or motion detection.

Would be nice to see some pictures of your work one day
good luck

If you go to the BSI web site Standards Development and contact them regards to which British Standards you need to follow. But as above I'm sure it will come down to class 1 (metallic) needing to be earthed. Low voltage and tested but check with the experts first.

Ps good luck.

There is plenty of wholly metal Class 11/Double insulated light fittings out there on the market! Just check out any of the major light fitting companies on the web and you'll see what i mean.

I would be hard faced and go around all the shops near you that sell light fittings and have a look at what marks, how they are wired etc.

I'll accept 3% commission
