I'm in Cambridge ill happily give him a call to come and upgrade my board I'm in a newish build has a split load i fancy a dual rcd installing I can then go earn some real money while he is doing it

Sad to say a guy who has spent 25 years in the army probably leaves with a pension and gets a training allowance a year before he leaves so he decides to put this advert up knowing he will make beer money at first but is doing no different than your local supermarket ie CU £100 or in other words a Loss Leader he aint going to make money but he is kicking the door door plus he will get lucky ie no neutral to earth faults but at the same time it errodes what we are trying to do no wonder I despair st times

Totally agree went to a job 3 weeks ago and the gasafe guy was spouting how he only worked 4 days a week cos its money for old rope his words not mine as he was checking out a boiler before the house was rented out then theres us screaming our heads off looking mad as we try to maintain high standards and nobody cares . Mind no doubt this guy on gumtree will be back on with "Now NICEIC registered" statement

Good evening Gents.

I just want to dispel a few myths here.

Now I can't speak for the guy in the advert, I am ex mil myself and get the pension, but i still can't afford to offer those prices!!! I'm with the rest of you there.

However,

The vast majority of service leavers who want to join our trade do all the relevent courses at Aldershot training centre. As said above, the courses are all done in the last year of service and paid for by the MOD depending on length of service.

There is one drawback, because it is an individuals choice as to what courses they want to do after they leave, no courses can be with held from them so yes, you certainly get innapropriately experienced guys on this course. When i organised mine, they did quiz me on my experience and quals but also had to tell me that they could not legally refuse the course.

There were 11 people on my course and i would say 5 of them should not have been there from day one and they all struggled from hour one. and were on their way home on day two and three.

These courses are all taught by civilian instructors with many years experience and all of the exams are invigilated by the relevent exam authority to the same standard as any other exams taking place throughout the country. Those that are not up to passing the exam are lost along the way.

Yes, it's a Electrical Trainee course on paper, but in my experience of it, no one got through that hadn't been working in the electrical field throughout their career in the forces.

So in short, there are no Mickey Mouse certificates issued, no one gets through that has no relevent experience, even though they can turn up at the start.

As for ex mil having higher standards than you guys, from what i have seen on some install pic's and conversation on here, he's talking bull. Wall have standards in any walk of life, it's up to ourselves to uphold and apply them.

(I had to quickly learn house bashing techniques when i started up, and of course, I still am but I've done ok so far).

I'm off on a two week break tomorrow, so won't be here for the flak and bullets this may generate, but i shall check in on my return!!!

personally i think that young lads that get transported to muslim countrys with a gun and kill muslims/ kids /women for our ----er "governement" or queen, then when they are of no use after seeing what they see, get chucked out on to the streets by the "army" with severe psyological problems
then become electricians--- Electrical Trainee

I'm 30miles away in Ayrshire, there a small company doing rewires of 2 bed houses for £1450
aye but you wont get much for that...each bedroom will have 2 doubles...there will be a pendant with a standard switch plate for each room with 2 way on the stairs and possibly the living room if the kitchen comes of ov that......it will be basic...
10 way split load (probably a BG screwfix special)...
then..they may just be able to do it...and i mean just....as long as they have access...

Was Casey Ryback any good with fuseboards then?
Yes, he invented these, didn't he?
