Hi all,

Got a start to go to way down south which is great.
One of my buddies started today and was told in the site induction that there will be no yellow cards issued for safety infringements, just a ticket for ÂŁ200 fine:eek:.

This is not a wind up.

Anybody heard of this or aware of any legal issues?

I would assume my employer has signed up to this??

Would the ÂŁ200 come off before or after tax?

Thanks in advance,

Boyd

For ÂŁ200 I hope you would do something worth while like drop a full reel of swa on the h+s foremans foot ;). Only joking kids, health and safety is very expensive, er I mean important.

Ps welcome to the forum.boydy.

What site was this on? it is probably a Main contractor T&C I doubt if it would hold up in court and would leave the Issuing person open for all sorts of court action it could ultimatly result in someone being victamised ect ect ect Personaly I wouldnt sign induction form untill this yellow card thing was in wrighting I doubt verymuch HSE would look favorably on this sort of enforcement for minor things as everything is open to interpritation

The only thing I've seen like this was on a job where the site foreman used to issue small fines of five pounds for stuff like swearing. He said it would go to a children's charity I suppose starting at home!

Haven't got to the bottom of it yet.
Done some digging and apparently the main contractor induction has a section (or tick box) you need to sign/ accept or you don't get on site.
Fines are paid by taking the money off a subby's measure and it's up to the subby whether they stand it or ask the offender(????) to pay.
Site is in Bath area and a retail refurb/extension.
I wonder what would be the outcome if an agency spark got a ticket? Would the company pay or try to stiff the agency?

Thanks for the welcome lads.

Mogga, are you the Mogga I know from old? Initials J.B.?

Boyd

yep, do that if you want sacked after just getting a start!

Well I think sometimes we have to stand up to these ridiculous measures, rather then get trampled on, and if that means losing a job, then so be it.

However, it looks like it would be the contractor/agency that pays, In which case I would leave it to them to argue with the main contractor.

ive only seen 1 system like this on the honda plant in swindon never heard of anyone getting fined tho the h&s was ott on that site tho full body harness was mandatory if you was on the 2nd step or above on step ladders cracking canteen tho

One reason why you will rarely if ever find UK H&S guy's on overseas projects, as they want to finish the dammed project...lol!!!
Normally these days you'll only see Aussie, Kiwi, Canadian, and Yanks in those role's, for both Main contractors and consultants.

These UK, H&S cretins are literary killing every industry in the UK, be it in manufacturing, construction, or any other field where UK companies are competing for contracts or for the supply of materials and the like in the world market.

We will always need safety at work, what we don't need lunacy!!! lol!!!
