O

oldtimer

I see the big orange shed is selling a 17th edition CU for ÂŁ50 no wonder its hard to do jobs with the old "How much I can buy one for ÂŁ50 $&6.

Same as Screwfix.

BG 10 way high integrity 54 quid last week.

Fitted one this week, 210 quid, bonding and tails all good, so if they want a cheap CU they can have one, i'm still charging my labout out a the same, no matter what brand i'm fitting.

Small 2 bed terrace, done a dusted by half 2

Fitted one of these BG boards today, quite impressed compared to their accessories range, i have a feeling they are very similar to another brand but cant think what ?

anyway all in all a decent board and wil use again, at ÂŁ49 you cannot grumble

why not? they're a good board. i fit them as standard. never any problem.

I fitted one that was supplied to me by the customer last week

Most of the unit was Ok,but what I didn't like one little bit was the earth and neutral terminal screws

The screws were that tight in the threads that a loose connection was on the cards if the conductor wasn't tugged to check its tightness

they even got a built-in spirit level, so there's no excuse for fixing it up pi$$ed.
Is that a bet?

I quite like the BG boards but have had one where the RCD's were incorrectly wired by the manufacturer, neutrals were swapped on one of them. Apart from that, not bad.

i had that on 1 CU. phoned BG and they told me they had had a few like it. it's because they use a sealer so as to leave the screws backed off. on a few boards, it was too strong.

Does it matter how much a CU costs?? I'm sure you'll still be charging the same rate for your labour etc, no-matter how much the materials cost.. Surely it's better to get 2 job's or 3 jobs at a couple of hundred or so a pop, than try and convince a customer to part with five hundred for one CU change...
