Anyway, I sub contract to a company doing council properties. Long story short neighbour of property I was working in asked if I could do a fuse board change as she was privately owned. I said yes and stated it would be through my company and not who I work for. She agree and the board was changed on a Saturday, anyway she now has called the company I work for and complained about me, my bids pulls me in the office and says that I should have asked for permission to do a job in my own time with my own bits and now he said he is going to invoice me for the time that one of colleagues took to test my work and check it wasnt his gear I used. What do you think about this, he has hinted that it will be several hundreds?!?

You can't have your cake and eat it as they say, some employers would call it poaching work from them, as was said in post 4 got you by your short and curlies, time to move on I think

You know what some employers are like, on the books or subbing to them, you are just a number, another pair of hands earning them money and if they think you're taking money out of their pockets they'll soon replace you and use any excuse they can find.

Ok I take it you have your own business fine and you do work for company A fine So when the woman next door approached you , you made it clear that you would do the work under your own business yes well if thats the case a lawyer would say you and the lady made a contract between each other .

So what made her complain to the business you do work for ie what was the reason . Also be aware that if you do work for this company under the banner of sub contract yet they are your principle payer the HMRC may see this as a tax dodge as you are not allowed to be a sole trader with one source of income as you must show at least 3 different sources of income and it cannot be a 90% 5% 5% split because if it is then HMRC will see this as tax evasion.

Looks to me that this company is treating you like an employee so please tell me they are not your only or main source of income

if you didn't use company van or company materials and it was your time you did the work in then the mistake is yours and YOUR!!!! company is to blame. this company you work for shouldn't be involed you did there work and plus you say she privatly rents so the council have nothing to do with that property.

i think its time for you to go solo and ditch these busy bodies they dont sound to friendly.
