What were you like? Peter perfect, quiet and stududious, boisterous or a troublemaker.

I’ll admit I was a mixture of all the above.

OK I was on Headmasters report more times than I care to remember. If you were given the slipper or cane, it would be coated with chalk so you had to walk home with the imprint on your arse. Every one would know you’d been in trouble especially mum and dad when you arrived home. That’s when the trouble really started!

I’ve always had an inquisitive nature with a sense of mischief so lets find out what will happen if….. I got a few detention sessions cleaning up the chemistry lab after a minor explosion with crude oil. There were a few other little mishaps, but the masters knew what I was like with physics and chemistry, they turned a blind eye to a lot of it.

Arriving home, three chalk lines would equal another six with the cane, six lines and you go twelve more. Mum would chalk the cane and send me back to school the next day wearing the same trousers so the masters saw the add on’s!

It was better if dad handed out the punishment, he was half mums size.

"Andrew has potential but must stop playing the buffoon in class"

"Sir its a trumpet"

"He also has a tendency to make questions harder than they really are"

Not a lots changed

The mother in law never twigged what it meant at the time , but did when she found a old report card years latter -- Empty vessels make the most noise !

I was generally the very good boy that teachers got very annoyed with because I would not pay attention but then answered the questions correctly!
Generally on reports it was A for achievement and E for effort!
I would not normally get into trouble but then would do something monumentally stupid.
I seem to remember snapping off a gas tap in the science lab so gas was pouring out, but I also remember that my friend took off a gas tap whilst we were using bunsens and we had a very nice flame shooting across the lab, but being a good boy I switched the gas off that time.

I was generally allowed quite a lot of leeway in what I did and never got into bad trouble, probably just good at not getting caught in many cases.

Well I still remember my first day at school - we were given a a piece of slate & chalk to draw / write on. That was in the very early 1950's & I still remember it and the name of the teacher vividly.

Later on, if I didn't get walloped with the cane / strap or gym slipper at least once a day every day, I would think something was wrong !!

Seriously though, when I started school, I was left-handed - like my dad - but that was literally beaten out of me by a female (I think it was female) teacher who stood behind me an punched me in the back whenever I held the pencil in my left hand. I still remember her too. It ended when my Dad went to see the headmistress & told her that my back was a mass of bruises - which it was. Nowadays, that teacher would be sent to jail.

It is true to say that the happiest day of my school career was the last one when I walked out of the gate for the last time, knowing that I would never again have to return.

Ye gods, you’ve reminded me of a lad at infant school. A southpaw, the teacher would tie his left hand behind his back! He was one of identical twins, Roy was the southpaw, Robert right. Robert did well, Roy was held back as being backward.

Just glad things have moved on a bit since then.

The reason for starting the thread was a documentary on 4oD.
The teachers have no power now, powerless against thugs defended by parents that want to make a quick buck in court. (Or the Jeremy Kyle show).

Bring back corporal punishment. It hurts for a while, but you don’t forget it!

Me the Joker nothing mallicious , never wore a school tie allways wore a very wide kipper tie , off to head give a school tie , got to the stage where the deputy head was waiting out side assembly with a school tie for me , whoopee cushions , changed the words of the hyms frankensence to frankenstien , Bugs our music teacher played piano like les dawson and only had 1 tooth ,she played the piano for assembly hyms , put drawing pins in all the hammers on the piano it sounded like a harpsicord when she started off , heads podium he used to bang his hands on it when he came into assembly , took all the screw out of it ... yep it collapsed ,, glued the black board duster to the black board , when white boards came in , last few years of my schooling changed the dry wipe pens to permernant markers , hung a form one kid on the coat hooks by his jacket , (that was cruel ) handed out Fart sweets to the teachers , set fire to the school field during sports day i was playing with a magnifying glass ... 4 fire engins later and no , field .. opps , had a lad next to me stab me in the leg with a compass so he could copy my work during an exam , he was made to stand up so i poured a full bottle of quink ink on his chair , poor lad Gym following lesson he had bright blue Y fronts they were ment to be white , game of rugby and off to the shower where he had a blue --- which stayed that colour for weeks , think i better stop now but in general i was a good lad lol

Like the piano and Les Dawson bit. I detuned the grand piano on the hall stage, every 4[SUP]th[/SUP] note slackened by ¼ of turn. Morning prayers were hilarious. It couldn’t be proved but I was getting the evil eye from the music master afterwards.

our school played a taped hymn as you went into assembly and one day for a laugh I swapped the tape for a punk one,Do you know something?after all these years if i shut my eyes I can still see our deputy headmaster jumping up and down screaming turn it off as the Sex Pistols belted out Friggin in the Riggin .Funny what sticks in your mind.

i got expelled..

Tut tut...

Me, suspended 4 times, 1 for bringing explosives into school one afternoon, can't remember the reasons for the other 3, probably for general anarchic/unruly/alcohol related ones.

Caned/assaulted by teachers hell knows how many times.

Left with 3 A levels.
