The place where I work has a suggestions box, really really good ideas get rewarded with a chufty badge, a framed certificate and a crate of beer, and for a while I have been pondering suggesting that they invest in PV. Its not sufficient to scribble "buy some solar panels" on a scrap of paper and shove it in the box, I would need to demonstrate why it was viable and a good idea and what the benefits are - all of which is OK except the fitting of the stuff.

There is a huge roof area in a variety of orientations, all unshaded. But, its all zinc roofing - looks lovely in the rain.

Is zinc roofing suitable to fix PV to or will it leak like a sieve? It is already earthed.

Cheers, obviously I wouldnt be fitting it as its not my trade, but its nice to be able to say its viable and wont cause the roof to leak. :)

Another option would be to fit these:

Peel'n'Stick Solar Panels

between each seam. Zinc roofs look great and even better with these on them.

Good idea, we've looked at it before for an aluminium kalzip roof (beautiful architectural wave :) ) however at £2.82 per Watt just for the panel PLUS intsallation and all the electrics, we couldn't make it add up economically.
