    The new-ish ProjectEV Apex range

I wonder why the modbus meter rather than just a CT clamp as you'd usually find. Any idea why?

    EICR Remedial Works

With all due respect, if you're in a position, trained and skilled to be undertaking these works, you should really know this stuff. Especially as part of your scheme membership - these are the basics that you will already have been assessed on...I hope.

Getting a shock in a shower.

Yes, I have dealt with a similar issue before. Client experiencing shocks whilst using their shower. I measured 210 volts between the shower door frame and the MET. Turns out the shower door was fixed through the tiles and into the metal studwork frame of the partition wall. I traced what I...

Thanks for your reply As feared. Fit anything LED, say a prayer and hope it last beyond 12 months lol! I might even look at battery and lamp changes on a few units 1st.

    Emergency light recommendations

Hi folks, Can anyone recommend a reliable brand for emergency lighting bulkheads please? I have a job coming up to replace 30 odd units. I have used JCC in the past, to my cost as they had a high failure rate within the 1st couple of years. I've had good experiences with Ansell products but...

    Tesla wall charger load curtailment

Morning all, I'm wondering if anyone has much experience with the Tesla Gen 3 Wall Chargers? Quick look through the instructions shows no PEN fault detection; easily dealt with using a Matte or similar. Also, I noticed no facility for Load management/curtailment of the installation via CT...

Looks like Click Scolmore to me. They also have the white plastic gasket just like the one in the photo.

Anyone watched the TV documentary tonight about Heat Pumps and electricity supplies in general?

He was ripped off. I felt sorry for him, he thought he was doing the right thing. More recently, I looked at an EV charger job. Client had an ASAP installed previous year. The contractor replaced the CU whilst there. On a TT system a dual RCD with circuits run off a couple of non RCD protected...

Anyone watched the TV documentary tonight about Heat Pumps and electricity supplies in general?

Around 2016'ish one of my clients had an ASHP installed to heat their drafty old farm house. He called me a couple of years after to ask if I could look at his electricity meter. His leccy bill had racked up £5k for an 18 month period. Hate to think what it is now. Combination of thinking he...

EV ultra cable, current carrying capacity

Hi Doncaster EV ultra cable: Does anyone know what the current capacity of these cables is given particular reference methods? The spec sheet just says 'Max current' 45amps (for the 4mm) but it doesn't state the reference method. The manufacturer does have a very handy cable calculator...

    Anybody using Job Management Software?

I must admit, my set up is not perfect. Been trading for 17 years and always wondered if there was a better way of managing all of the information/time/admin better. I have 2 problems with the idea of management software: 1) I'm tight fisted and don't want to pay for it. 2) I don't think I'd be...

    Anybody using Job Management Software?

I use a notepad. A list of jobs I've been asked to do. When I complete a job I cross it off. Once every couple of weeks I rewrite the list including new work that has cone in but minus the jobs I've crossed off. I need it simple.

    Is work slower than normal?

It slowed for me in the spring and so I started advertising again. Haven't advertised for about 6 years, I got so busy that i was in the habit of turning away new customers. That was my mistake I think, shrinking my network instead of growing it. But I also think the current news has played a...

Advice on if quote / estimate is pricey

Lots of fiddling about there. The price sounds fair, certainly not a rip off which I expect is the OPs concern.

Is it worth paying to advertise (Sponsored ads)

Yes, I noticed this with checkatrade. Even if I put my own postcode in I find I'm 4 or 5 down the list and below someone 20 miles away. Didn't used to be like that. Funnily enough though I've been on it for around a month and had a few decent jobs come from it, as well as a few enquiries where...

Is it worth paying to advertise (Sponsored ads)

I've joined checkatrade which I had used before 7/8 years ago and seemed to work well then. But again, loads of sole traders on there covering my area and its a lot more expensive now. Never tried Instagram, I feel like a dinosaur. Is it like Facebook lol? It's so weird because I'm usually...

Is it worth paying to advertise (Sponsored ads)

When I noticed that my phone had been a bit quiet I thought I'd try and be more active on Facebook. I joined a few of the local community groups. I quickly noticed that if someone asks for a recommendation for an electrician within half an hour there's 7 or 8 replies with names put forward and...
