    Ring or radial in bungalow

I’m rewiring a bungalow and the owner has asked for a radial for all sockets except the kitchen. But there will be a separate washer and dryer in the circuit. Will a 20A radial be enough?

UK Kitchen Wiring-New Build ring vs radial

HI All, I am building a new house (self build) and have my part P so am running the cabling. My reading of the regs says that any appliance of over 2KW should not be supplied by a ring main and should have a 4mm radial. (BS 1363) My questions are really around this- - It seems all of my...

Have the rules for ring mains changed over the years?

I am sure when I qualified for the 16 edition we spoke about how to treat a ring main. I know the majority of the time we just learned how to read the book and how to find needed headings but I am sure we also spoke about ring mains. If a socket has two cables coming into the back box then it is...

    3rd ring from garage

I have supply in the garage with its own small consumer unit with a 63a breaker and 1 B6 and 1 B16 breakers. The garage has a ring of sockets coming from the B16 breaker. An electrician has added a wire into the 16amp breaker to a second shed. So that is 2 rings from one B16 breaker. I now have...

From concealed ring to surface fixed

Hi all, question on extending an existing ring main onto the surface and then re-joining back to in-wall. Is there a ‘correct way’ to do this, as I don’t see any sockets other than spurs with flex outlets that allow you to nicely exit a double, continue surface mount for a few sockets (behind...

Hi all, I have been on a site repairing damage caused by travellers collecting copper for the last week. We have found and replaced cabling to get the site up and running. Can I spur a socket from an existing fused spur on a ring main?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I just want to confirm: Currently I have a spur leaving a socket in the bedroom, into a 13A Switched FCU and running up to power a double socket in the loft. I now want to locate a socket in the old boiler cupboard/airing cupboard to power a tumble...

Wiring Ring that has already been bypassed

Hi folks, cautious DIYer, so just looking to confirm something. I got a wired Ring for our neighbors who have been without a doorbell at all. Seems the previous owners had had some sort of smart doorbell system and took it with them. When I got to the part with the chime box it looks like...

Ring Final Circuit - spurs only

I read that it is against the regs that a ring final circuit cannot be just a ring with with spurs off it. In short, a ring must have sockets on it which double up as junctions. I find that hard to believe.

    Wiring my own Ring floodlight

Is it possible to use a cable to wire a Ring floodlight? In the location i haven't got any wiring, but i can feed it through a window and plug it into a socket on the other side. In America they've got adapters, but in the UK they don't exist it seems. Thanks.

    Balancing Rings, do you?

Was watching a YouTube video, a US guy singing the praises of the UK plugs and sockets. One of the few drawbacks was about our use of rings and how they have to be carefully balanced. Now, I may have missed this one but, how does one do that? Yes you can design a circuit with even legs and...
