I'd appreciate the wisdom of domestic sparks here...

I've not seen the likes of this before in a house and had concerns about the apparent single insulation so thought best to call DNO and check, better safe than sorry after all...
At first despatch said it's probably just a lateral cable and fine.
Then a few minutes later they called me back and said actually we've realised it's a house not a flat and we'd like to have a look at it to make sure.
Is it ringing any alarm bells for anyone else?

I was just out and about so deliberately drove past and bingo, SP were there so I popped in. They were happy I called them.
The consensus is exactly as @davesparks said.
When I got there the DNO guy was lifting floorboards in the landing and the dodgy T&E cable was notched into the joists running towards the front.

The main is the other side of the street and all other houses go under the road and up to just inside porch. Records says it's PILC cable. But this house has no sign of the original PILC cable anywhere.
They had also lifted floorboards in the bay window downstairs and couldn't see the original cable in the void underneath.

I left them trying to work out where it went and where on earth the joint is. I really don't envy them this one.
