XLPE vs PVC

Long story short I ordered the "wrong" cable.... wanted H6241Y but mistakenly bought H6241B

Now, rather than faff with sending it back, I believe I can still use it but want to check with the pros. Its for a domestic lighting circuit that is currently run with live/earth loop to the switches and neutral loop at the fittings.

Given H6241Y is 1mm/PVC/70c max temp and H6241B is 1.5mm/XPLE/90c max temp I would have thought its absolutely fine to use (if anything I've paid an unnecessary premium for what I actually need).

Aside from the potential future "confusion" with the white sheath, any views on if I can use it?

Can't see an issue myself. The other difference is Table 4D5 vs Table 4E2 but I think that is the correct way around, the CCC being higher with what you have.

Thanks Tim. Was also looking at Table E5 and at the 1.5m solid point there appears negligible difference between BS6004 and BS7211 cable factors too. As you say, it would be the other direction that would clearly be an issue if it was being undersized to a significant degree.

That said, I'm wondering if Table C1 comes into play.. where it says BS7211 is for use in conduits/cable ducting or trunking and BS6004 can be embedded in plaster. Since I was planning to clip direct and plaster over, does C1 prohibit it or just not include in its advisory. I'm not sure why BS7211 couldn't be embedded in plaster from a visual comparison of it.

Sleep easy buddy, no problems at all using this. We have to actually use this cables in schools due to Low Fume & Smoke emission, NO problem being buried in walls in the normal manner - My view is in the case of a fire, the fumes of the cables are the least of concern, where you have classrooms full of Plastic Chairs, Plastic Boxes, Plastic Storage Trays, Plastic Blinds, Plastic Paper Folders etc etc!
