Downlights

Just installed some mains voltage Downlights. They all work ok but after half an hour i get a burning smell appear in the loft. Its just like burning dust. There is no insulation up there and the ceiling is brand new. What the hell could it be. All the lights are connected with flex. The flex goes to a joint box. I then have 1.5T&E between each joint.

these are the downlights used

Perhaps it is just dust! Could try hoovering around them nd see it is goes away. Could take bulbs out and do an Insulation Resistance test to make sure wiring is okay, if you haven't already.

I've meggered it and it was fine. tbh the smell has gone now so it must of been dust just lingering or around the holes i cut. But anyway thanks

If they are diachroic lamps (sp?) consider 30w instead of the normal 50w fitted everywhere, the heat that comes off those babys is immense!!

i dont like gu10 lamps...nowt but trouble..gimme a transformer and 12v lamp anyday!!
i went to a job recently cos a customer said his lights wernt working and he said he has had problems with squirrels...
an understatment..the little bugger had eaten virtually everything...the live and LV sides of the transformers were gone and the 1.5's were dessert!!.
though the burning smell there wasn't dust...it was barbequed squirrel.
