Used to extract the silver from VHS tape and 35mm film when it was common place the plastic was used extruded to make dustbins and any other household wares that could be sold in Black, recycled plastic can only really be used in Black far to expensive to extract the black pigment and colour it.

I don't believe there is silver in VHS tape, which is a medium made of a thin magnetisable coating on a strip of plastic film.
Silver emulsion is used in the photographic process.

I think you are probably correct, it was 16mm reel to reel film tape, but we did use the plastic from VHS tape.
