Hi All,
I am in the process of purchasing a new build property in Swadlincote Derbyshire
And want to build a man cave so require the standard lights and sockets for the build
The house builder has mentioned running from an external socket ?
The little bit I do know of electrics this doesn’t sound correct or adequate,
I have mains in the garage with light and socket, but not sure if this would be the correct method either ?
In my current property I have my man cave ran through armoured cable ran form main fuse board,
So my question would be if I am correct in doubts on the above working adequately

To run a new fuse board to the garage, Would this be fed from the fuse in board in the house ? Or can it be connected from the mains power feed on external box into the property, fed of that direct to the garage .
My thinking being a new fuse board in the garage could then feed armoured cable feed to the new man cave ?
The main fuse board for the property is positioned in the middle of the property with floors already laid, so to feed from there would require invasive works for the cable feed I would rather avoid the cost of , if possible..

Thanks in advance

It really needs designed from scratch by an electrician.

Does the garage have its own board, or just tapped off the house sockets somewhere?

I believe new builds should have provision for an electric vehicle now (correct me if I’m wrong there) which means there may be a 32A or larger supply to the garage already.

What is the load of the man cave? I’m thinking a beer fridge, big telly? But anything that creates heat (ie a space heater, water heater or even a kettle) could be too much to just spur off a socket circuit.

When you say external box do you mean the meter box where your main 100 amp dno. fuse is.if it is the dno don't like seeing anything other than a switch fuse isolator normaly fusing Down the splitt concentric cable because someone has fitted a new consumer unit in property and found the cable feeding the house is way more the the 2 or 3 metres allowed for extending dno'sequipment and done the right thing .I would be wary of extending supply from there if I have understood you properly .

From my reading... it sounds like the garage is already fed from the external meter box.... not the house consumer unit.

Is it possible to photograph the meter box, house CU, garage CU, if there is one....... showing the sizes of the breakers within them....

Also a rough sketch drawing of the plan of the house, garage and where the man cave would be going.
