Hi
I have a Bosch double oven, approx 8 yrs old, which has developed an annoying fault.

About every 3 months, the heating element in the fan oven blows.
It doesn't just trip the C/U, it blows to an extent that the element itself snaps or furs up/melts.

The oven is connected correctly to a single 45A fuse on the C/U.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this ?

Thanks

Any of the following:
Cheap/poor quality element.
Oven fan not working correctly.
Thermostat faulty
Poor connection somewhere in the supply to the element.
An outside bet - your nominal voltage is very high.

Alan.

No mater what protection is fitted, it won’t stop the element blowing. A lower rated level of protection may limit the damage slightly, but not stop the fault from occurring.

Ensure the fan is OK and the air intake is not gummed up with cooking detritus.
Checking the supply voltage several times during the day would be a good idea.
Are the elements good quality?

Just a few places to look.

As the above post. Check your not buying the same elements from the same shop from the same batch of crap ones !!
If you haven't done so already then perhaps it would be worth paying the extra for an original Bosch element.
However.
My own thoughts would be that something is wrong with control gear for the element. Or perhaps the wiring that feeds the element.
Maybe you can IR test the loom from the element backwards, to the control knob. ?

I Have been buying the Elements from the same place so next time it goes, i'll get a Bosch original part and see how that goes.

Also do you think its worth getting the Oven checked out ? And should i contact a Bosch registered engineer or just an Electrician ?

Thx

Hi: If you want to get the oven checked out, take a look at www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk you should be able to find an Engineer in your area, You don't need a Bosch engineer but you do need a competent appliance engineer.

Id check the Fan motor is working correctly, they often seize when hot, this will undoubtedly cause premature failure. Not so sure the thermostat will be at fault, how's your food coming out? Burnt or ok lol. You could always do a center oven temp test. Record the cut in and cut out on the third occasion, add the 2 and then divide by 2 for the mean temp. I don't think voltage would cause an element to fail that prematurely, though if the elements are a poor quality then its possible i suppose.

Regards Chris

Don't tell they need to be a member of a scheme type body too, before they are considered ''Competent''?? ..lol!!!

No mate: Anyone can just go to B&Q pick up a toy meter & set of tools then start repairing appliances, bit like the Electrical trade really. Don't think there are any registration bodies for them really (well ther'es 1 but we won't go there in Public) Suppose what I should really have said was reputable Lol.

Amazing how all these oven and washing machine repair men have had to go to uni and get their degree, who would have thought you needed a degree for fixing an tumble dryer, still same as the PAT lads and the fire alarms guys, all C.Engs and proud of it ...........................:ninja:

Sorry just in one of these moods, no work and flying tomorrow home .............................take no notice of me
