Did a CU change today, and replaced main bonding to gas and water. The property is a back-to-back terraced house, and I noticed that the water supply for the house behind goes through this property's cellar. There are two water pipes coming in right next to each other. Both were bonded, along with the gas. Would you say this is correct?

I think they've got to be bonded but on the other hand one of them is not the householders property, so, it's a tricky one??....but if it was me....i would bond them both and i suppose whoever bonded them originally had the same thought

Thanks guys. So it doesn't matter that I'll be connecting the bonding more or less directly to next door's? I suppose all bonding is ultimately joined anyway!

wirepuller what im saying if its in your property ie cellar then i would bond it and i think thats what the prevoious electrician must of been thinking ???????????????????

Farm we don't bond to have more paths though do we mate, just think what the bonding is for and what it is trying to achieve

Thanks guys, I did bond it in the end. I concluded that as far as the property I'm working in is concerned, next door's pipe is an extraneous conductive part.....obviously.....therefore needed bonding. The only reason I was asking was because I have effectively linked two separate installations together. More of a curiosity.

Nothing different in real terms to a high rise block of flats, how many times is the water riser(s) going to be individually bonded within every flat.

In your case, if it's an extraneous conductive part, that is within your equipotential zone then it requires bonding...

To hell with the regulations, if it don't move bond it.

Years back I was running a SWA to my shed, on the way I found a disused 3" gas main only about 3' from the earth pit. A bit of cleaning with a file and emery and a 19/.044 was run to the earth pit. The connection was protected with a coating of trinidite compound.

Which is better, a 2m rod or 200m of steel thats been there and well settled for 60 years?

Did I do right or wrong?
