can people please read up on it, people keep quoting the reg pre amendment.

we can follow amendment 2 or 3 at the moment but we should strive to use the new regulations to save confusion.

134.1.1

Good workmanship by skilled or instructed persons and proper materials shall be used in the erection of the electrical installation. The installation of the electrical equipment shall take account of the manufacture's

Take it this is aimed at me? Not coughed up for a new book yet [emoji54]

It's only competent has changed to skilled and under their supervision to instructed. Also the bit shanky mentioned earlier about "take account" instead of in accordance.

you forgot the last line has changed from installed in acordance to manufacturers instructions to take account of

bassically instead of having to install it to the instructions we have to take it under advisement and install it the way we feel is best

It is to take into account the useless instructions printed by some of the Manufacturers.
A cooker I did recently was one -
Must be installed by an NICEIC aproved Electrician.
Must be protected by a 32A circuit breaker.
Must be supplied with a 10mm sq cable.

I rang them up about it, the repsonse was "oh, well, those are standard terms we put in most of the cooker instructions, if they don't apply to that model, then ignore them".
But to the green book, they couldnt be ignored, it would be a deviation.
Now, we can read the instructions, agree that they are not relevant to this installation, and do what we thing is required to make it safe.

I think the main one is fan fusing / isolation. BS7671 requires single or 2 pole isolation (on single phase). Fan instructions require 3 pole isolators for timed fans. Why not put a 2 pole isolator further down(up?) stream, to do away with the 3 pole isolator.
You can do that now - it is still as safe as the manufacturers instructions, just the isolator is not as they specify.

and then there is the light fittings that will only take 1 x 1mm cable what the hell are you suposed to do with an in out loop oh yes as instruction say install in a terminal block and wrap up in tape or if there is a loop connect to terminal block provided then wr in tape and leave outside enclosure grrrrrrrrr then torque to 3.5 nm when there friggin screw drive only does 3.4 or 3.6 arrghhhh
