Just been watching JW's videos on you tube, got me thinking about the old days when Men were Men, Boys were Apprentices and Electricians were Electricians.
For those who of a certain age, Me, Tel, for example, must recall the complete nasty job of running that non insulated earth wire and connecting it to the nearest water pipe via an ELMO clip, anyone got, or had any experience of this? I only ask coz I'm bored witless oh oh it's "Cotes Du Rhone" here come Nurse with my medication.

I'm guessing ELMO clip is a nickname, I was interested what it might look like but Google was confused.....and this was supposedly the best it had to offer

No mate I can recall going into the Wholesalers we used (hang on need to get some tissues the thought of that era brings tears of joy to me) and asking for 100 yards of 7/029 bare earth wire and an Elmo clip honest, things like that stick with you, especially after cycling 5 miles to get it. Ask a lad to do that in today's age and all you would get was ++++ off give me the keys to the van, tuh don't know they are born. Thanks Nurse I'll give you a call when the bottle is empty.

Heavier cable on this one, looks like 7/.044. Part of a motor installation from around 1935. Is the clamp an Elmo or an Ernie or what?

Perforated strip with small nut and bolt?

Similar, but not quite; http://www.electricmotioncompany.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/5900appli.jpg

If you Google Elmo clip it brings you right back to this post

Elmo was probably a nickname like Zebedes for strut nuts.

If it looks like that then I've never heard it called an Elmo and I might be as old as Pete or Tel but I'm certainly not a youngster. We still use the perforated copper strip even today, comes on a 100m roll and we just use it with brass nuts and bolts and the earth wire gets lugged and put in the bolt as well. The finished item looks pretty similar to that.
