Just been watching JW's videos on you tube, got me thinking about the old days when Men were Men, Boys were Apprentices and Electricians were Electricians.
For those who of a certain age, Me, Tel, for example, must recall the complete nasty job of running that non insulated earth wire and connecting it to the nearest water pipe via an ELMO clip, anyone got, or had any experience of this? I only ask coz I'm bored witless oh oh it's "Cotes Du Rhone" here come Nurse with my medication.

same as good old pete, the poor lad had to cycle 10 miles each way uphill with two flat tyres

Two flat tyres? He were lucky, When I were a lad I had to carry the push bike With only one wheel (and that was flat) up two Hills, for 3 miles, And carry 4 bundles of 35mm steel conduit back..... All for hayp'nny a week....

Never worked on the bare 7 strand earth wire but remember it in our house as a child. Was 11 when we moved out. It was contained in the tinned copper buckles with the rubber cable and went from the nearest one of the THREE sockets ( kitchen ,room and landing) to the lead water pipe under the sink. sorry carnt remember wot the clamp looked like. Was easy to trace as all surface mounted.
