Just seeing peoples opinions on the whiska Quixx glands for tails? Bad practice to use them without tails clamps within CU?

I will stick to the glands. I normally use the whiska sprint plastic gland but they are abit unsightly and i have a client that is, lets say, fussy...... And his cu is on show. I bought one of the nickle plated glands from whiska and seen the quixx things when i was in the wholesalers, they said they are compliant but i cant see any support from them without a clamp in the cu.

This brass nickle plated one is like a blooming hand grenade.

I have nothing specific off the top of my head but i am positive tails need adequate support like any other cable and in my opinion the membrane grommets dont offer that without the use of clips/cleats or tails clamps.

For tails, I don't actually flatten the cores, but I do untwist them. When terminated, the strands pack most tightly when they're all lying parallel, so there's no scope for strands moving out of place and slackening the connection.

That's a first for me. Never seen that method ever. I would say I have managed well without the need for it so far though.

I've used one of those Wiska Quixx grommets for tails on a side entry, where there was no room for a sprint gland. By the time I'd offered up the CU and fixed it in position, the membrane on the grommet had split. Left no IP protection. It would be fine, if you could use them in one swift movement, so to speak!

I use the GripLoc® Consumer Unit Tail Kits - Remora Electrical Limited - http://www.remora.net/catalogue/nylon-cable-glands-plugs/GripLoc-Consumer-Unit-Tail-Kits, as 'introduced' by Lee. Smaller & more compact than the Wiska Sprint.

PS and considerably cheaper!

Tails, just tighten them up, the check a few days later. With a torque screwdriver of course.

Try it, use a bit of bare 2.5 it makes a connection that doesn't settle as the strands don't shift.
