My that's a big one

That lampholder is not suitable for use in the light fitting the OP is asking about, fitting that as a replacement will leave exposed live terminals in the fitting. It needs to be replaced with the same type of lampholder as is already in there.

It's not fused tigether, the lampholder is screwed together and a little metal tab locks it a bit like a ratchet mechanism. It is possible to get them apart again if you can get to the metal tab and push it back, but it's really not worth the effort if you're replacing the lampholder anyway.

Will try and open it as Gary suggested. If not, brute force. I will need to take the lamp off the wall - I have 8 of these! I am going to replace these with E27 - better daylight colour choice. Bayonet LED does not fit in the lamp as the neck of the holder restricts it.

Thanks guys. I will replace all the holders in my first post with this E27 type holder. I am assuming that it will be ok to use a LED bulb up to 9 to 12W?

You could buy BC22 to E27 adaptors

Sure. But this is a E27 as I am standardizing all 8 to be E27.

Could not get it to open, so cut the cable near the cord grip, unscrewed the cord grip and the socket came off. Cannot see the lock mechenism in it, so this option.

Yes. The fitting is designed for a max 60W incandescent lamp. LEDs run much cooler.

Thanks a lot Gary! You were right. I managed to break one but an electrician friend was around and managed to get to the the "lock" shown in the photos above. Rest of the 10 or so replacements were easy!

Thanks again. I never ever thought that old bayonet type had this "stupid" lock mechanism in it.
