Was adding an RCD to a consumer unit so that both sides are protected, basically I’ve took the 2 lives from the load side of the main switch to the tops of the Rcds, then there’s a neutral going from the load side of the main switch to the first neutral bar I’ve doubled up a neutral there and took it to the top of the new (one closest to main switch) rcd. Then out other end I’ve took a neutral to the first neutral bar. Also from the first neutral bar I’ve took one to the top of the 2nd Rcd and then out the other side I’ve took it to the 2nd neutral bar. I’m getting 230v between live and neutral right through the new rcd but it won’t trip when I press the test button and also isn’t tripping when I’m doing RCD test on it. Am I doing something daft when connecting that up??

Could the fact I’ve only got 2 neutral bars in the consumer unit have an effect?
Are the neutrals on both sides of the 1st RCD connected to the same neutral bar? They shouldn't be.
Short answer - do what you have done with the live from the main switch with the neutrals, and each RCD has its own neutral bar on the load side.
For each RCD, the load neutrals need to be independent for it to see an imbalance.

put a pic what you have got now .
You should not be adapting a consumer unit outside of manufacturers guidance.
I would have that right hand side busbar fitted properly.
As for adapting an existing CU... cant you take the guts out a new dual rcd board and make it fit? You would have the right number of neutral bars, the right neutral links made up to the right length etc
