Hi,

I just had a new 18th gen with surge protection installed. They disconnected the old cable and did a new run, the cert says 10 gauge was used but then I just had a different sparky who is looking to wire up my garage see it and say it should be 16.

Just wondering what is correct and should I be getting them back to put in 16? The cable run from the meter outside to the box inside is approx 10m ish and the house currently has a 60amp fuse but looking to increase to 80amp just a normal home but with a 9kw ashp and will have a garage/workshop soon.

Thanks

This was the set up before they changed it. The fuse is 60A but I am getting an 80A put in soon.

Depends on what temperature rating the SWA is. 70c and you're limited. Just beats me why they didn't put a 16/3 in - I would!

Cable path and wrangling issues?
There's so little difference between them, and also the option of 2c + 10mm g/y..... this just smacks of 'what was leftover in the van'

Cable path and wrangling issues?

I guess if the desire for more than 60A was not clear to the person choosing the cable they would go with 10mm as cheaper and easier to feed through any difficult route, and fine for 60A max.
They are the ones who told me to get a bigger fuse and called the power company about it. Also the cost of the cable wouldn't of been a factor to me.

Why didn't they get it uprated when WPD came out to isolate for the switch change and to reseal the fuse?
No one has been out yet, they called them when the istall was happening and suggested I apply to increase the fuse once the workshop has been wired.

So far I have been told that it shouldn't be on 10G cable and that the Swa switch isn't rated for 60A.

I also had this reply from LG-

The 9.0kW Monobloc (HM091M.U43) should be supplied from the Main Distribution Board, using a Type C MCB Rated of 32A Max. The Immersion Heater Should be fed separately, also from the Main Distribution Board, and usually requires a 16A MCB. If Boost Heaters are applied they too will require a separate supply, these are available in 3kW and 6kW versions.

But the installer said-

Please see attached images confirming that the heat pump is on a 20amp as it draws a maximum on 16.2amp, all done in line with 18th edition wiring regulations.

They are saying they have done everything right but I am getting conflicting info. Not sure how to move forward should I be making them change what they have done or is it acceptable work??

Thanks

I don't see an issue with the supplier fuse and the tails to the fused switch. The next stage though has a question mark for me.
According the the EIC the Scolmore fused switch has an 80 amp fuse in it and it's 10mm SWA running from the switch, reference method C.
Before I put my foot in it, would others agree, as in fact already mentioned, whether is is 70 degree or 90 degree SWA becomes the pertinent detail? (I suspect this is why the 2nd sparks might have questioned the 10mm SWA)
