Screwfix are offering a 10 pack of dry lining boxes for free if you buy certain lap products.

So, if you buy just one cheap Lap product (i.e Lap blank plate for 50p, you get 10 x dry ling boxes worth £3.50). I've just got 300 boxes and 30 blank plates for £15. Should last me a good few years.

I expect they will be out of stock soon on some of the boxes though as they will be selling lots.

TBF you couldn't get me to use those back boxes even if they were free. 🤣
I actually prefer them to the appleby. Anything more than a standard 12mm plasterboard and the fixed appleby sizing's become a problem. They are nowhere as sturdy as appleby's though.

Thanks HHD for the heads up on this , also just cleaned out my local branch, (ordered yesterday) the girl at the counter was incredulous and said the offer has been withdrawn (lack of stock being the official line..) Somebody is getting asked into a meeting tomorrow morning..!:tearsofjoy:

I find whenever you find yourself ****ing around cussing for what should have been a 5 minute job because some grunt has left you a knackered thread insert in a dry line box, it's always some el cheapo brand.

I stick to appleby on the occasions I use them which seems more dependable, but whether they really are that much better or whether its that the thugs who knacker stuff are more inclined to buy cheap ---- brands is a moot point. For 50p or whatever it's not worth worrying too much about...

The offer is still showing on the web site. I ordered yesterday, twice. One lot I could have picked up today, the second was out of stock on blanking plates but is due in tomorrow. My daughters house has been gutted and the spark doing the job is happy to use them.

I just installed a new light switch for a neighbour. The original one was an MK, made in England one with the very wide rocker and concealed screws. I found a Schneider Lisse one which was a very good match and in my opinion just a far superior product than the MK. The construction was much stronger and the attachment of the rocker was also superior. Maybe you do get what you pay for and maybe you pay for poorer quality. I know the flat is 50 years old and most of the original MK stuff is still working fine. The back box is plastic with an adjustable lug on one side. Maybe I'm a sad person but I do like to compare brands and ages of switches and sockets. My flat is identical and still has almost all the original MK stuff...but I'd replace it with another brand nowadays. LAP may be laughed at by many, but sometimes you will find stuff that just works,,,and at a price that makes sense.

I don't think LAP is a manufacturer as such, more a consistent branding for whatever/wherever Screwfix can get cheapest. Some of their sockets - by no means all but certain finishes - appear manufactured by BG who are a decent value brand - while other stuff I've been demeaned by requested to fit is genuinely laughable, absolute wang.

I'm not overly worried about the long term reliability of the three LAP blanking plates I bought to get my hands on 30 fast fix boxes, or the £2.09 I invested.
The boxes look to be reasonable quality, on a par with others that I've used.

I got mine!

That’s Berwick Upon Tweed out of boxes….
I’m working in Hawick today, so I might go to the screwfix there too.

Yes… I know my van needs a good clean.
