Fancy one of those SACS tool,bit pricey though.Is it all metal construction ?

Those yellow Kewtech ones are rubbish currently using hacksaw and getting quicker.

KewTech do a large one aswell, the small ones are okay, saves time and gives a perfect cut, just dont buy the proper spare blades for them as they cost an arm and a leg! just get a pack of junior hacksaw blades, cut one down to size and you can replace the blade in the kewtech tool.

To be honest I would rather just use a junior hacksaw (small cables) or a 12" hacksaw for the larger cables. For stripping the armour and inner then two stanley knives are my preferred tools. One for stripping the outer sheath, and one with a brand new razor sharp blade for stripping the inner sheath off.

I have tried to use numerous types of stripping tools (Shell banne dthe use of Knives offshore approx 2000), but none even come close to being as good as a stanley knife for stripping.

I gave up with the kewtech one after 3 attempts. Back to hacksaw for me.
I'll try johnboy's zip-tie tip tommorrow though.

When I first started making armoured cables off about 15/16 years ago I used to think how come there isn't a tool for the cutting of outer sheath/armour in one uniform depth, and that after all, a simple design closely resembling an adjustable copper pipe cutter with a sturdier blade than the cutting disc of said pipe cutter would do the trick. Lo and behold how many years later when the blade runner came out I did give myself the proverbial kick and wondered if someone had been stealing my thoughts!

Ive never used or even held a blade runner in the flesh though now, I am interested in one of those armour saw's if anyone has a link to UK stockists ?

Grats to your friend, hope he is doing well enough from the patent/rights/royalties ?

I knew he was doing the deal with someone long before it was on the shelves. I should point out that 'he' isn't exactly my friend, it would be more truthful to say his son is my friend and lives just down the road from me. To be honest I'm not sure how well he did, not that well I don't think and I know shortly after doing the deal he met with ill health. He had been featured in Professional Electrician magazine with his invention which at that time was a modified pipe cutter. I got in contact with him through that because I hadn't seen him for many years (he was estranged from his son). I managed to get his telephone number off his van in the photograph lol. Was good because of all that, I put him back into contact with his son

I use a ratcheting pipe cutter, cost about a tenner from Wickes i think. Don't do much SWA work, but it is OK for cables with an OD of about 25mm. Nice clean cut in insulation and good score into armouring which lets it snap easy enough. Probably wouldnt last too long if you were doing it all day everyday, but for the odd occasions i use it, its good enough for me. Its also good on SY as well.

i like the idea of that armour saw, i got marked down in practicle exam becasue i was really tired and for some reason decided to cut all the way through instead of just the armouring

(i think i was in automode becasue i had very little sleep)
