Check out these three pictures, each item is priced differently and yet upon closer inspection I believe they are the same just in different colours.

What do you think of this?

I'm thinking a lot of these test instruments are made in China and I bet they are really cheap to buy wholesale.

The UK suppliers probably pay the manufactures a small fee to have their name stamped on the item and then sell it as their own.

What is most surprising about these three testers is the difference in price, have a look online.

made in china and badged up as whatever you like,I got a cable locator that DiLog wanted over ÂŁ130 from CPC for ÂŁ25 exact same unit just didn,t have their name on,got a phase rotation tester same way ÂŁ18 at CPC,well known supplier overÂŁ100.

Hey Tel you can date it by the serial no on rhs of scale, I have a few one from 54 one from 68 and a recent one ,still use it despite all the new kit that I own.
 
They do look very similar, which I suspect is no accident.
I have heard of electronics manufacturers buying 'vanilla' cases wholesale and sticking their own branding on. Using the same LCD screens, button layouts etc might make them look the same but I'd be interested in comparing the PCBs inside them in case the cheaper ones are made with inferior components.
 
Look the same to me, but all have different screen graphics. Maybe, just maybe the more expensive units might have some better components within. See quite a lot of that going on here...
 
Well I bought the Di Log one which was priced fairly reasonably, spur of the moment decision after a few beers on a Saturday night.

I mean are Di Log a respected company?
Has anyone else bought their gear?
 
chint is chinese. have used a few of their CUs. not bad for the money, but opinion is divided.
 
I've used chint cu's too, I've even got one in my own house. I find it's ok gear. I don't find it very cost effective though compared to the "well known" brands.
