Earth clamp on lead sheath

Evening fellas,
Came across this on a PIR today,

Is this hunky dory? I didn't think clamps on lead sheath were acceptable.

Ze was 0.15 btw

You are correct, it's not... Can be noted on the PIR but not really coded as it's out of the scope of an inspection as it's supply authorities equipment. Only way to solve it is contact the DNO...

Hang about, I was looking at it previously on my phone.

Is it a normal BS951 tag, or something else? I can't really see it correctly now...

Sorry for Saying this , it can be Common Method Used by People Who Like Tampering with DNO Equipment , ??
● The Correct Method should be Soldered or a Spring Clamp , DNO

That looks like a braided strap as supplied and installed by the DNO and thus acceptable....it is the standard bonding clamp that is not acceptable on a lead sheath.

Ive had those on the last 2 PIR's Ive done. DNO are'nt what you call enthusiastic when you phone them up. Ze's were good though

That's what I thought after having a seconds look at it when it's big... Just from the title I thought it was another BS951, but if it's a DNO spring clamp then it's all good!

It is a hepworth spring clamp (consumer earth bond kit) as fitted by DNO's.
This is the correct piece of kit for the job, designed not to damage the lead sheath or the paper insulated cores inside.

Does anyone know where to get these clamps I have come across this problem countless times. Contacting the DNO & trying to get them out is a long & frustrating procedure. for the customers safety. i dont see any reason why we cant fit these ourselves when we come across such problems. The alternative is waiting weeks for someone to come out & do nothing

I looked into this, you need a special tool to tension up the bond when you fit it new.

Having never done one before I thought it best to leave it alone.

There are coiled springs you can get that seem a safer bet to use than the Hepworth bond but my knowledge is very limited.

Someone with more experience will be able to answer this one IE someone who has actually fitted a Hepworth bond.

If this installed clamp is not a BS951 or other screw tightening clamp, (and it doesn't look like it is, from the posted photo) then leave it alone, it was probably installed by the DNO!! If it is a screw/bolt tightening clamp, it's up to you if you want the DNO to sort it out!!

Is that a loop cable coming out of the cut-out, maybe to supply another property?? If it is, it doesn't look like the earthing point is being is carried with it to the other property!!
