Re: Fatally Flawed

Learned recently of the dangers of this 'safety device'. Was in the office of an estate agent that I do some work for the other day and noticed that he had them in all his sockets, office and show room. I advised hi that they would be better in the bin and he removed them all right there and then. Result!

Re: Fatally Flawed

Could we return to the Fatally Flawed thread in the sticky section.

Hi Tony, it might have been moved to the Gen Elec forum because of the banner with the link.

I don't want to stikkie the thread in case it messes with that. Maybe checking with Admin would be best.

Had a direct reply from ESC

"Thanks for highlighting our mistaken retweet - we also don't agree with socket covers and it shouldn't have been retweeted!"

I've just been through the whole of this thread and note there's not a peep from any of the forum sponsors. Could I ask all you lovely sponsory people to post links on your site to the campaign site please.
Dan, Jason, can we try to get them on board?

I can't believe I've been so stupid as to overlook the one group who could probably give more weight to the campaign than any other, the socket manufacturers.
If anyone has a name and contact details for anyone I could get in touch with at the likes of Crabtree, MK etc a few people would be very very grateful

What about asking at your local wholesalers for the local reps number? I know they are sales man but maybe they could actually go above and influence the companies?

Signed it last week when back in the UK and also got the family to do it.

Also got a result after getting my wife to read the thread and the fatally flawed website she sent the link to her main office and her boss as agreed to remove everyone of them that are being used in 25+ of his nursing homes, so the word is getting out

I've always thought these were an utterly pointless gimmick. It never really occurred to me that they were inherently unsafe! It's more than a little worrying that, because they are designed to look so benign and have become ubiquitous, I've never stopped to consider what really should have occurred to me as a professional. Thank you FF for pointing out "the obvious" and letting us all see it!

As an inspector I will now stipulate their removal. There are a couple of sites where my word is Law (or at least Lore...) but thankfully I don't see them very often (commercial and industrial sites are not the kind of places I'd expect to see them). I wonder if I should write them up as C2's when I do landlord's inspections? In fact, now knowing that some are so oversized that they can spread the socket pins and cause overheating, I should write them up as "FIR" and let their maintenance sparkies charge a callout!
