Not sure whether you would want to touch this with a barge pole as never used one but TLC offer a flush mounting kit for the metal contactum dual rcd consumer units and for standard domestic sizes the adaptor is under a tenner on top of the standard cu cost, so 16 way dual board for under 100 plus vat

i know the Hager ones are good quality but assume they will be closer to your ÂŁ190 price point.

Hi Guys I've been posed a bit of a tricky question with regards to installing a consumer unit into a stud wall the client has asked for it to be recessed back so that only the removable lid is protruding from the wall. But doesn't want to got to spend out on a recessed CU which best price I can get from the wholesaler is about ÂŁ190 exc VAT before the breakers are considered.

The question asked was am I able to install a Plastic CU into the wall and mount it onto a board between the uprights of the Studs. A board could be fixed in between the studs and a that section left open and free from insulation to allow air flow.

I'm at a bit of a loss to the answer my initial reaction was that its a possibility, but then thought it might be a good idea to use a metal clad board if this was going to be the case.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Jon,

Had a similar situation recently.... made up a frame work, MDF board and recessed a nice standard Hager in there. Used this as one of my jobs for NICEIC yearly inspection and passed with no issues. Really was a bit dubious at first but fitted in well and turned out ok in the end. It was the customers idea, just trying to gain a few extra inches space in his cupboard.

All the best,

TLC sells the contactum flush mounting kits. I've never had any problems with contactum gear (good price too) but I've never seen or used one of these. The guys at TLC are usually very helpful so I'm sure they'll be glad to show you how they work

Interesting pic, sythai. What's going in the other holes?

Was an interesting job that one.... the other cut outs had all the control gear installed in there for an intelligent lighting system (Lutron) which was installed at the same time. (That CU is an additional one we had to put in, all this for a kitchen and drawing room sympathetic refurb!)
