My metabo 18v ltx burned out last week after about 11 months. Gutted. Was going great till i lent it to another spark. Hope it isn't too serious but completely jammed and smoked for about an hour

Are makita batteries chipped I bought a kit 2 drills 3 batteries only ever used 1 drill and numbered the batteries and always used them in order. Strange part is all 3 batteries pack up the same week. Anyone else found this ?

I was of the same opinion for several years, ....until i tried the equivilent Milwaukiee!! Makita are now definitly my second choice. If you get the chance, try one yourself, ..but you may just end up buying it though!!! lol!! ...Dam things are niegh on bomb proof too!!!

I will concur that Milwaukee are awsome tools, a pal has just bought one of these sets, however........they are seriously pricey, I priced them up and they are not far off Hilti money!!!!.

i`m using a ryobi 18v. got it second hand for £50. got 2 new lithium batteries and a charger for remaining £100.
i know no one here likes ryobi kit, but its 3 years and the thing is still going strong. drills 5.5mm into bricks no problem, 20mm holes in fat joists no problem.
for bigger stuff i get a corded sds out.
If it fails one day i will get same one.
£73 for new bare unit

I've got a 5+ year old ryobi 1802 NiCd. Nothing particularly wrong with it except the batteries are dead. However, it probably isn't helped by the batteries but my bosch 10.8V has as much power as it has. Both will drill 6mm into standard brick or 20mm into wood but the bosch weighs 1kg and the ryobi 2.4kg ;)

Just would echo the aeg comments, got the lion 3ah 18v, well happy with it. Used the cheaper makita, feels cheap and with the price of batteries, why bother with ni cads?

The makita with one battery is only 99 though, and 150ish with 2 battery's, and mine gets some stick too, I think for the money they are hard to beat to be fair, as as mentioned a few posts back I have tried most and I am not saying this because I have the makita now, the only down side is the metal carry case has broken on mine due to the stick the kit in my van gets packing up late at night and when it's wet haha, everything just gets slung in the van, but for the money they really are the top of the shop in my view.

Makita BHP453SH 18V 1.3Ah Li-Ion Cordless Combi Drill on the Srew-fix site, is going for 99 quid at the moment. Don't know if that's a good price or not, to be honest!! lol!!
