Been out and about all evening in the car came back home around half past eleven got stuck into some invoices and minor works Certs gets a knock on the door.
One of our neighbours spotted a gang of lads around the van shining a torch inside and then trying to force the back doors they then ran off when disturbed by my neighbour !
the back door handle and lock ( 11 plate vauxhall combo ) they have tried to wrench out I'm not sure how much it's going to cost to repair.
Best part of it is we called the police as soon as we investigated what had been done and they where not interested in sending anybody out, I'm mean there's bound to be some evidence on the back door even I could see the finger marks !
apparently they are going to telephone us in the morning, well that's no bloody good in my opinion.
I suffer with stress and anxiety at the best of times and this hasn't helped me one bit, can't sleep that's why I'm typing at this hour

"Hello streetlighter",

Sorry to read about the attempt to break into your Van.

If your Van has just the rear doors into the `cargo area` I recommend that You fit a `Van Lock` for additional Security - something like this from Toolstation:

Toolstation > Safety & Security > Security Cables & Chains > Heavy Duty Van Lock & Hasp - they are approximately £21.00 - I am attaching a Photo of this.

If this is the same mechanism as the type that I have the Circular centre is a Circular Padlock which you unlock and take off to open the Van Doors.

Because the `Hasp` consists of Two halves they obviously have to be fitted accurately in order to have the Padlock `attach` to them - but obviously as a Professional Electrician / Tradesman this would be easy for You.

Do You have an Alarm ? - it would be worth fitting one - they can be installed fairly inexpensively if You look around at Vehicle Audio / Alarm fitting Companies - obviously even cheaper if You fit it yourself.

I don`t mean to worry You with this - just to urge you to be extra vigilant:

I hope that You don`t have any further problems regarding people breaking into your Van - But be VERY wary of this in the next few weeks.

The Police would tell You that IF Your Home or Vehicle become a `Target` of thieves they are likely to Try / Retry more than once.

You probably already take out your Tools and Power Tools at Night - but if not I urge you to do so for at least the next few weeks.

"Good Luck"

Regards,

Chris

firstly you report the police for making no attempt to investigate a crime.....they have a duty to do so...
or your neighbour could have hit the lads with a stick...that may have done it.....

dust the handles with crystal iodine will leave their hands black and purple for about 3 weeks
it takes their hands that long to wear it out
easy evidence of anyone tampering with the handles and locks

Better still, use sodium hydroxide every night for a few weeks

I got a van vault in my van, houses the test kit, circ saw etc..

got a stanley chest on wheels which carrys all my spare kit and cordless power kit and also carry a tool bag with all main tools in, chest and toolbag wheel out every night into the house

Break into my van if they like daft bit of cable along with general skts/switchs etc..,

had a van done around 5 years ago, idiots took 3 hanks of sleeving thinking it was cable

Id love to catch someone doing it, a good bat tumbled into the back of the van and driven 50 miles away and leave them

Shouldn't laugh, as having your van broke into can't be funny.

But, seriouslly how thick are some people. No punishment these days though, so no deterent and petty crime will always be around :( going to prison now is like going to butlins. Think if they got 6months in a dungeon like the old days with rats, **** and crap they'd soon think twice about breaking into peoples livelyhoods. Makes me so angry, rant over.

I was in a supermarket carpark years ago in Glasgow on my way out of the shop, there was a car alarm going off, a pair of legs dangling out of a car driver window flailing about as if the person was pulling at the stereo.....everybody was just walking about pushing their trolleys around as if there was no sound at all and nothing was going on....basically as long as it was not their car...

yes and dont leave any test instruments in the van overnight will you...regardless of whether their in the vault..or not....
its the cold see...
they dont like sharp changes in ambient tempreture dont test gear...

General consensus is predictable and understandable, but next time your offered a £50 stihl saw or box of gear for a tenner - think where it has been removed from. IF lads didn't buy hooky gear the need to chore it would lessen....just off to give my high horse some oats...

I've seen vans left for 5 minutes and come out to find van vaults cut open.

Some of these scum bags are seriously equipped.

I worked on a site where they did 10 vans in a row. Some brand new vans and quite a few had site boxes.
All empty!

I chain the back doors shut.
