Ant infestation

Went to a streetlighting column today and thought I'd found the reason for the fault, but alas no, there is still a L-N short on the cable underground somewhere. Interesting pictures though. Mad what you find!

probably yes, until the underground cable fault developed. Probably a joint gone down, we get a lot of that.

Until you dig it all out you won't know how many cables go into the cutout and it is not a fault with all that earth in there.

dug it out, see the photos. in the wrong order on here, photo 1 is after i cleared it.

Need to clear it out better than that as fault may be under the terminal cover.

Sorry mate, I should have been clearer. I stopped taking photos and started fault finding which included clearing the cutout right out to eliminate any possible shortage between conductors. This sign light is fed off another which in turn is fed off a street lighting column via a fuse in a carrier. Voltage at fuse carrier but blows when fuse inserted. Tested on low ohms and getting 1 ohms between live and neutral. Will let office know they will send a digging team to expose the joints, cut out and re terminate probably, but I might not be on that as depends who gets the ticket.
