thought i'd seen most of the stupid things they do, but this one is a doozy. having replaced a faulty double socket ( chrome) in a kitchen, taken a Zs of 1.1 ohms, thought to compare with another chrome socket 3m away. plugged in MFT and immediate error, confirmed as no earth by socket tester. so, isolated at CU, came to remove socket front and noticed only 1 faceplate screw in it. removed the 1 remaining screw to find the cpc.s had been removed from the terminal and wedged between the ceramic splashback and the back box. the sliding lug was also missing. it would seem that the kitchen fitter had done this to stop the cpc's ( which were both in 1 sleeve) from pushing the faceplate forward on the side with the missing lug and screw. fixed it properly in 10 minutes. still can't believe he could be that stupid.

Tel,
Who fitted you're kitchen?

was done by b&q, before my time here, i hasten to add. only bad thing they did was to spur off a socket in 0.75 flex to dishwasher socket.

my OP was not my own kitchen , but a customer's.

Now i genuinley like that idea. It can be along the lines of the 'posts' & 'threads' bit under each avatar haha. If you think someones asked a lofty question then just click the lofty button next to the like button on the thread post haha....i think im thinking too much into this now lol.

I was once testing a rewire that my firm had done on a social housing, house..another contractor had already fit the kitchen and then decided to fix all the sockets, switches & spurs back using No.8 x 1" wood scews!!!lol As soon as I saw them, I reported it to my boss and left. He got the kitchen fitters out to sort it....lol I never went back to see it, so not sure if they had to change all the back boxs or if they could just re-tap the lugs.

No way of retapping 3.5mm, or even 4mm after no.8's have been there. Are there people really that thick?

You suggestion the forum should create a monthly 'lofty-award' lol.
you mean a bit like an `oscar`....but styled just with lofts in mind...

and this months `lofty` goes to......
