I have an ex-colliery one - the case is all metal and it's quite a bit bigger than the bakelite cased ones.
One day, I may learn how to use it .............
Thats the type I had in mind,I used to own one but it disappeared somehow, somewhere
It probably somehow ended up in the possession of someone who may never have used that little gem
This one fell off the back of an NCB lorry as it came through the gates of a colliery nearby.
Metal cased... like this one?
This is my first Megger, a late-ish series 2, that I have had since I was about 14 and which served faithfully until I was established enough to buy a pushbutton one. Still pretty accurate and gives out a nice steady 520V IIRC, so it does get used from time to time on my own vintage stuff.View attachment 20227View attachment 20228
Im sure they come into use just after Tony started his working career!!!!!
Back in the good old days when electricity still had some magic in it, you could get 'magneto-electric machines' for curing all diseases known to man and a lot of others besides. Apart from not having a meter and producing spiky AC instead of DC, using one is rather like holding the probes of a Megger and turning the handle. 350V p-p I have measured from one of these - lucky the current is very limited.

I was flat on my back at the foot of the bed, she was hanging off the headboard!
Turn them up and they are bloody evil!
BTW I’ve still got a pair of CyberDog rave pants with a hole burnt though the crutch from a modified thoradic machine!
Electricity is a part of everyone’s life. Some of us push life to the extreme.
