You don't want to be trying that with one of these then, Tony.
Cuthbert Andrews 60kV insulation test set, originally in a Seeboard HV test van. We haven't fired it up yet, only sensible people will be allowed to play with it.

Spoil sport!

Got to have a play with a 30KV test rig at work and i had a 15KV rig at home for a Jacobs laddder until I set fire to it.

To add to the fun I seem to have got involved with building a Wimshurst machine.

I wonder how many battery push button IR testers will still be around and working perfectly in 40/50 years time?? Not many i think!!

I'd have no hesitation using any of the 3 or 4 wind-up units i still own (Megger/Metrel/Robin) for testing personal installations. Check 2 of them fairly often against a Megger CM500, in fact i have found the old wind up's, can give a better or should i say, more stable reading in damp conditions....

i've got an edgecombe peebles analogue battery powered jobby, bought from flea market for £2 in 1980. had to replace the PP7 with a couple of PP3s in parallel, as the PP7 is now defunct. it still works perfectly and i still use it for fault finding.
