Don't do domestic but a friend in need lost his lighting this morning so i popped over and ask where the fuse board is .... pointing at the washing machine 'behind there'.

Well after pulling out the washer look what piece of plumbing art-work greeted me lol.....made my astonished comments, 2mins to replace fuse wire that had popped due to lamp blowing and no i didn't pre-test before re-energising - sometimes the old ways are needed - switch all lights off, power down and replace fuse wire.... no bang 1 lamp out 5mins to sort and out ;) [ElectriciansForums.net] Look what greeted me today - OMG!

Its just not right, that 'fuse' box is in the way. If you wanted to isolate the water supply you potentially risk your screwdriver slipping and going into the 'fuse' box -- electrocution!!. The electrician (and I use that term loosely) who put it behind those pipes must have been barking mad ...... pray god no plumbers on the forum spot this and report it.

And as for whats wrong why has the electrician put the 'main switch' behind the pipe so you cant isolate the installation totally and then used the copper tubing for an earth? Hasnt anyone explained to him you need to earth to a screw embedded in the wall to avoid interfering with the water pipe isolator .......

I notice nobody has suggested it is DIY plumbing and that no professional plumber would ever do anything like that.
I suppose at least the plumber tried to plumb around the CU where many would have just run the pipes across the front, or drilled holes in the side and plumbed straight through it.

There's something amiss with this set-up but i just can't put my finger on it!!:rolleyes2:...can anyone spot anything?

I can only see 2 X T&E's going into the CU, and what i'm assuming is a 16mm T&E supply in. So unless there are two other cables that have been sunk into the wall and back entry into the CU, we have just 2 circuits supplying the house/flat!! If just 2 cables then the fuse ratings are up the cock too!! lol!! If there is a gas supply into the property then that hasn't been bonded.

Bloody shambles all round, hard to see anything that is actually RIGHT with this CU!! But it's early morning here, so maybe the grey matter hasn't quite kicked in as they say!! lol!!

Im not jesting here and wish i had took a photo but the washer is next to the sink and to fit it all in the unit steps out 200mm for the washer to fit ... its the worst case of a design and solution cock-up i ever seen ... it was done several yrs ago so too late really for me to step in and help them with compensation but if i'd has happened across it earlier id have done some real damage to the kitchen company!!!!

I must say that is pretty damned impressive!
Jeez wish I could do workmanship like that! The electrics aint bad either....

Thats like something out of the house of horrors :s

What was it actually feeding darkwood as there does not seem to be much going into the board?

Come on Darkwood give us a bit more info to work with...

Is this a sub-board just for the kitchen, or the main CU for the property??

Its the main CU for the house fitted prob' pre 80's its clear the kitchen was designed for a full length 600 deep worktop but they never looked in the existing cupboards to see where they planned to have the washer their was a fuseboard so rather than a full kitchen redesign they bodged it by making the sink 200mm proud as the washer was below the drainer.

I left him with BS3036's as i fear retro fitting a 60898 would be more prone to trip on lamps blowing and the pain of getting the washer out every time seemed a tad worse situation.

Hes fully aware its a complete cock up and lays at the hands of both the kitchen company and the handy work of the plumber.

Therein lies the problem. I see no merit in further circular debate, so will bow out of this discussion.
