Don't do domestic but a friend in need lost his lighting this morning so i popped over and ask where the fuse board is .... pointing at the washing machine 'behind there'.

Well after pulling out the washer look what piece of plumbing art-work greeted me lol.....made my astonished comments, 2mins to replace fuse wire that had popped due to lamp blowing and no i didn't pre-test before re-energising - sometimes the old ways are needed - switch all lights off, power down and replace fuse wire.... no bang 1 lamp out 5mins to sort and out ;) [ElectriciansForums.net] Look what greeted me today - OMG!

Its the main CU for the house fitted prob' pre 80's its clear the kitchen was designed for a full length 600 deep worktop but they never looked in the existing cupboards to see where they planned to have the washer their was a fuseboard so rather than a full kitchen redesign they bodged it by making the sink 200mm proud as the washer was below the drainer.

I left him with BS3036's as i fear retro fitting a 60898 would be more prone to trip on lamps blowing and the pain of getting the washer out every time seemed a tad worse situation.

Hes fully aware its a complete cock up and lays at the hands of both the kitchen company and the handy work of the plumber.

Ooooop's, ...also meant to ask if there are any cables, tails etc entering the back of this CU?? Because as it stands from the photo, it just doesn't look right as a main house CU!! lol!!

Back to back with meter cupboard, you be surprised how many houses still wired up from a 4way board ... often need at least 10way now and thats just for beach chalet lol

Therein lies the problem. I see no merit in further circular debate, so will bow out of this discussion.
