totally agree with you there, mike on being certain, but with domestic testing on a "known live source" is, IMO, acceptable. with industrial, where you have 3 phase and maybe more than 1 source of supply, then you are 100% right, but that is usually beyond the scope of a Electrical Trainee.

Proving Units - ISSWWW

careful - there seems to be confusion as to the type of proving unit being discussed:

Is it a voltage proving unit for your voltage tester
or is it
a calibration proving unit to ensure your tester is working as it was when calibrated last.

Early posts seemed to be discussing the former whilst the later ones are discussing the latter.

The Dilog unit you are referring to is the latter.
 
my mistake. looked at the spec on it and it's not a proving unit. it's a checkbox.
