Have been asked by a client to come with with a method of making a beacon flash on a machine after a 30 minute delay.

They want to press a button to start the timer and the beacon come on at the end of the period for around 60 - 120 seconds.

Has anyone ever done anything like this before. I know there are DIN Rail timers but im not sure this is possible without using an electronic circuit ??

Any help would be appeciated.

Cheers

Neil

You could use a selection of multifunction relays to make this work.
The wiring would be a bit odd but "doable", the number of relays would depend on whether there is a flasher unit place at the moment if so then this set up may work, I have only drawn it quickly not checked it.

If there is no flasher then another relay set to on off interval could be powered from the delay off relay.
Obviously you could look for other more convenient functions that would make it easier to wire but that would be down to the space/supply/time/funds available.

Mort if you need a hand with this email me I am more than happy to help you as I do this sort of stuff all the time, I think you can leave me a private message on this forum and I will get back to you asap. If you need help I will email you a parts list and easy to follow drawing and soon you will have a happy flashing light :)

This screams out for a PLC forget all the timers relays etc its cheaper to buy a micro-plc and logic program exactly what you require leaving several IN/OUT puts or anything else you require... note you may be making an addition/alteration to the machine control so you need to fully aware of any risk assessment you need to do and/or ensure your set-up is fail safe or would not compromise the safety of the user or machine if any of your parts failed, if the machine is not up to standards then this also should be part of your alterations as you now become responsible for the control system in its entirety.... The fact your asking how to do this is why i'm giving you an heads up as it seems your out of your comfort zone.

If the info you request is a totally independent control from the main machine control system then your good to go but I personally need to know how exactly your integrating this or not as the case may be with the existing machine controls as this would change every bit of advice I have to offer.
