    Circuit fed straight from meter

Every one is circuit mounted in mini trunking so no RCD requirement. Just strange to see a circuit coming straight from the meter and didn't know myself if there was anything against it.

    Circuit fed straight from meter

At work in one of our high rise buildings every apartment in the building has a meter and consumer unit for regular peak supply, and an off peak meter and consumer unit for storage heaters and off peak immersion. The off peak feeds are controlled by a cyclometer so are switched on and off by a...

    oversized MCB's

The MCB's are there as overcurrent protection to protect the fixed wiring rather than what's connected to them so as long as they are smaller than the cables current carrying capacity given the install method then they are fine. How is each heater connected though? Through a fused connection unit?

    Recommendation for loft PIV

I don't! I work in social housing and occasionally fit or replace the two brands I mentioned. The price is what I could find looking online- unfortunately we're not allowed to buy anything from work.

    Intense short electric course

If it's 5 days a week then it's 360 hours (without breaks), 2 evenings a week for 2 college years is about 450 hours so not drastically lower. Either route you'll need to read and study yourself anyway and the ones that struggled on my course didn't do anything outside of college. I know social...

    Recommendation for loft PIV

Thanks for the info. It's not as bad as walls running with water! To be honest, the condensation is mild but there are certain areas that develop damp on ground floor and upstairs. 1870's so solid wall with no internal or external wall insulation- and no trickle vents on windows- is that...

    Recommendation for loft PIV

Hi, I've had a little search on the forum but can't find anything on this. Basically, live in an old cottage and suffer from some damp and condensation through the winter (property has double glazing). Going to try a positive input ventilation unit in the loft- does anyone have recommendations...

    Intense short electric course

I agree. Four years ago I started Level 2 2365 as an evening course in a local college, followed by level 3 and then nvq level 3, passed my am2 just over a year ago so classed as "qualified" after 3 years. Once I started the level 2 I began contacting local sparks until I found someone willing...

Those of you who don't join a scam provider, how do you sign off your own work?

Part of the problem is also that most of the public don't know about notification and certification- to be fair, I've met a lot of sparks that don't seem to know what work is notifiable under part p! What are homeowners suppose to do if they find out they are responsible for ensuring it is...

    Bedroom lights without earths

Removing one no, but if it never had one in the first place because it was wired in twin that doesn't have a cpc, then the class 2 fittings and C3 would apply- doesn't seem to be the case with yours though as one fitting has a cpc so likely to be wired in t&e

    Bedroom lights without earths

Any guidance I've seen (from schemes and the best practice guide from electrical safety first) have no RCD on domestic lighting circuits as C3, they also have no cpc on lighting circuit with class 2 fittings and plastic switches as C3 (if they are wired in a 2 core cable without an earth- this...

    Bedroom lights without earths

It seems strange that one of the bedrooms has an earth though? Are the other bedrooms not wired in twin and earth? Maybe the electrician thinks the cpc must be tucked away in the loft- probably could have dropped the ceiling rose to have a look though and they should be able to see if it's t&e...

Those of you who don't join a scam provider, how do you sign off your own work?

It probably depends where you are as well, one of my local councils doesn't allow notification unless you are part of a scheme- reason being they don't have anyone with electrical knowledge in building control to check your work.

    EIC and EICR issues

That's an interesting read. A few things I wasn't aware of including the part about being able to leave 6mm bonding in place if it has been in for some time and has no signs of thermal damage. I work on the voids section for a large housing trust and whenever void work is carried out we are in...

    EIC and EICR issues

I agree in respect to the testing, if you do a board change the you would do a full test as though it was a new install and therefore would have a full schedule of test results. But in terms of schedule of inspections, can it not be applied to your board change only? For example, cables routed...

    EIC and EICR issues

If you tick the 'alteration' box and state in the extent that the schedule of inspections applies to the board change only then surely you're not signing that the entire installation complies?

UK Hob\Oven wired wrong way round?

Chances are it is correct. If the switch marked "hob" is a 20A grid switch as you say then it will be switching a 13A socket outlet so the oven must plug in.

    EIC and EICR issues

In this case, the schedule of test results will apply to the full installation as it has had a board change. It's the schedule of inspections that is the problem as that will only apply to the work carried out and not the full installation hence the eicr still being required. Like others have...

UK EICR Done, New CU Required. Am I being taken for a ride?

I don't think it is, but at work they have a company called Morgan and Lambert come in to do independent audits of eicr's and installs when the new tenant moves- they get given a list of properties each month and select some to sample- if anyone doesn't replace clip in blanks with modulars they...

UK EICR Done, New CU Required. Am I being taken for a ride?

If they're the slotted plastic blanks they probably just clip on and can easily be pulled off without a tool- maybe that's his reasoning? The modular blanks that clip on to the din rail are much better
