    The Old Chestnut returns

I’d say most houses I work in have the gas meters inside somewhere. Under stairs, in the garage, in the kitchen/utility room, in a plant room etc. It’s only the more recent properties that have meter boxes externally.

Tips for pulling 2.5mm T&E under galvanised metal capping

As above, chop the top/bottom out. The capping may not reach all the way above the ceiling/below the floor?

    Room thermostat reading high

I recently fitted a Heatmiser Neostat for a customer in their hall- to control their radiators throughout the house (70’s 4 bed medium sized detached). Quite bizarrely the thermostat is reading 3 or so degrees above the actual temperature when the lounge/hall door is open. Ie stat shows 22...

    Strange quinetic issue

Never had a problem with quite a few standard receivers I’ve fitted. Probably around 20+. Fitted only 1 dual receiver and 1 dimmable receiver. Both didn’t work properly. Won’t be trying them again. Stick to the standard receiver/hard wire/go with something like Lutron RA2

A storage heater on 2 phases.

They didn’t recommend it was done. I priced (high!) to re arrange the circuits so that no storage heater had more than one phase supplying it. Needless to say I didn’t get the job. Which suited me just fine!

    Garden Lighting help

No chance of RCD tripping with ELV, one big reason why I use them. I usually use gel filled wiska boxes or wiska shark or similar. Resin is fine, until you need to re enter.

    Garden Lighting help

Use Collingwood constant current ELV lights. Driver at source/consumer unit. Don’t worry about length of cable run. I did some recently to replace existing and it had total cable run of over 100m. Worked great. I’ve fitted hundreds of them now over 8 or 9 years. Only 2 failures (faulty batch...

    Which Untethered EV charger

It looks like it does have an Ethernet connection. Will look into it further. Do I need to do any training with them to fit their products? Assume you have found them reliable? Where have you found is best to purchase from? Cheers!

    Which Untethered EV charger

I’ve got a job coming up where the customer wants an EVSE fitted in their rear communal parking area 50m from the house. As such there are a few unusual requirements. LAN/Ethernet connection is a must. I don’t want to be relying on Wi-Fi at that distance. Customer ideally wants untethered...
