EICR rectifications completed by another electrician, what now?

Hello all. I have recently passed my 2395, allowing me to carry out EICRs and have just thought of a possible scenario for which I'm not sure how I'd handle. I do a lot of work for a letting agency and I know that when they get periodic reports carried out on their properties, if there are any...

When to install metal consumer units

I understand it's not always good practice but getting people to pay for a new board/ RCBO's isn't always easy. On small boards with 4 circuits or less I don't see this being too much of a problem. A split load 20 way board would have 10 circuits on 1 RCD each. I don't hear people moaning about...

When to install metal consumer units

The reason I ask this question is because most customers won't pay for RCBO's even when I've explained it's the best option because of the cost. If I'm to do work in their house I need to ensure it's RCD protected to cover my back. Swapping the main switch for an RCD is the quickest/ most cost...

When to install metal consumer units

RCCB's that meet BS EN 61008 are rated for isolation so I don't see the problem? I know on a big installation this wouldn't be ideal but say on a CU with four circuits.

When to install metal consumer units

Hi Everyone I am aware that we now have to install metal consumer units in domestic premises now but at what point should we swap a plastic board over to a metal one? The reason I ask is I've been to plenty of jobs where there is a plastic CU with no RCD protection. Ideally I would swap the...

    Main Earthing conductor size.

Yes I am. It's my first one for NICEIC. I understand why we have minimum CSA's for Earths but having never seen one this small on a domestic job just threw me off a bit.

    Main Earthing conductor size.

No, TNC-S. I already have but this is the first time I've seen anything less than 16mm used before. It just threw me off. So am I safe in assuming the inspector will be happy with 10mm?

    Main Earthing conductor size.

Sorry to 're open' such an old post. I'm having the same dilemma and want to keep the inspector happy. The only difference with my installation is that the 10mm earth goes directly to the consumer unit from the DNO and the fuse is 60A. Is this kosher?

    Kitchen Fan isolator?

When I say it will have a pull cord I mean it one which will be attached to the fan. This won't isolate the fan for maintenance/ if there's a fault. I think a Switched fused spur above the countertop would be the best option. That would also remove an ugly pull cord!

    Kitchen Fan isolator?

Hello all I am currently re wiring a flat which has a damp problem in the kitchen at the rear. I will be installing a 6" extractor fan with a pull cord on it to help reduce the damp. The fan will be supplied from the lighting circuit. I am aware that you need a 3 pole isolator when it comes...

Digital TV only picking up BBC channels

Ended up getting a friend of mine who does a lot of aerial work to take a look at this. He said water had 'drained into the aerial' which was causing the problem. He replaced the aerial and now the TV has all the channels it should. I can't imagine how water got inside though?

Digital TV only picking up BBC channels

I don't have an analyser. The coax goes straight into the back of the TV Forgot to mention, I re tuned the TV whilst it was connected to the front aerial and it was picking up channels. I did this to eliminate the possibility of the TV being broke. However, I unplugged the TV and took it back...

Digital TV only picking up BBC channels

Hello all I have recently finished re wiring a customers kitchen and the last job was retuning the digital TV she has in it. This TV worked perfectly well before the new kitchen was installed, however since trying to retune it I can only pick up BBC channels. There are 3 TV's in the...

    Post lights on outside decking?

Hadn't thought of SY. I didn't think it would provide enough mechanical protection. Surly Jerry could chew through that as well?

    Post lights on outside decking?

Hi Everyone One of my customers is getting some decking put in at the back of his house. It's designed so you can walk straight out the back door onto it. He says he wants 3 post lights fitted to it. There is a 13amp switched fused spur inside right next to the back door. I'll be using this...

    HMO Smoke alarms?

No I am not. I have passed my 2394 inspection and testing recently (woohoo) but haven't joined up yet. I intend to soon. As as far as I am aware if it isn't notifiable work then I don't need to be part of a scheme.
